How to get started with feeding raw to your dog~ by Camlyn Miller-StevensSome people start with a gradual transition from Kibble or Commercial Food to a Raw Food Diet over the course of 2 weeks. Others choose to switch more dramatically or "cold turkey". To gradually transition, you should feed your dog regular kibble for the morning meal and raw for the evening meal. You will gradually decrease the kibble in the morning and increase the raw in the evening meal. If your dog is leaving it's morning meal of kibble, it is ready to transition them fully and feed them raw two times a day. This is an example of a gradual transition: Day 1-5: 75% of present food in AM and 25% of raw food in PM Feeding Chart
This is for total daily consumption, meant to be fed 2 times daily Our suggestion is that all dogs should get their morning meal in Whole Bone and Mixes at night. Whole bones are beneficial to the diet as it acts as a Natural Dental Floss as well as gives the system something to digest on all day long, allowing for the maximum absorption of nutrients at night. RAW FOOD AND KIBBLE SHOULD NOT be fed within 5 hours of each other. If you feed a grain free kibble these have been made to have some meat added to them ie ground beef, turkey tripe etc as long as there is no bone. I strongly recommend adding a digestive enzyme (available at Oma's Pride) or a natural digestive enzyme TRIPE to the meal, so that the most nutrients will be absorbed from the food. I will warn you now Tripe is the stomach of a cow, so it smells pretty bad, but it is extremely beneficial to your dog. Our mixes contain a protein source, vegetables, organ meat (in most cases) and bone. Some people like to add a vitamin to their dogs diet, so we have our VITALITY, a vitamin supplement available for purchase. I advise you to feed your dogs a raw diet in either metal bowls or ceramic for easy clean up. Please remember to wash all utensils following use since you are dealing with raw materials. The raw diet is a great diet for dogs with cancer as cancer feeds off of carbs which is present in kibbles. Yes vegetables due have some carbs but an insignificant amount |
